Great Results

My freshly dug and filled .6 acre/two million gallon farm pond looked like a mud hole. I added two aerators and two fountains. The water remained muddy after two weeks. I started applying 50 lbs of alum each day and after six applications the pond looks like the water in the Caribbean. It is a beautiful blue/ green color and so clear you can see the bottom around the edges out to about six foot in depth.

I think if I continued applying it would completly clear the entire 10 foot average depth pond until it looked like a swiming pool. I’m uncertain how long this will stay clear but it looks incredible right now.

Works great

We have a large pond that has quite a bit of suspended clay. Adding the Alum has made a massive difference.

Description

Aluminum Sulfate Granular CAS-No.: 10043-01-3 Drinking Water Certified to NSF/ANSI 60

Application rates for alum are recommended at 25 to 50 pounds per acre-foot of water per treatment.  The number of applications needed will vary depending on the concentration of suspended clay or algae particles. The first treatment should be made at the rate of 25 pounds per acre-foot. Clay particles should settle and the water should clear within a few hours after mixing the alum. Aluminum Sulfate Granular

If there is little noticeable change after one day, then a second application should be made at 25 pounds per acre-foot. Alum should be applied during calm weather to avoid wind mixing that prevents the clay from settling out. It is most effective when dissolved in clear water and sprayed over the surface from shore or a boat. Aluminum Sulfate Granular

In large ponds, a dissolved solution of alum can be poured into the outboard motor wash of a small boat. Aluminum Sulfate Granular

Alum can reduce the pH and alkalinity of pond water due to a strongly acidic reaction in water. For this reason, pH and alkalinity need to be tested before treatment with Aluminum Sulfate Granular to prevent harmful effects on fish.

Alkalinity should not be below 75 mg/l and pH should not be below 7.0. If readings are found to be below these levels, then hydrated lime and/or sodium bicarbonate should be added in the same manner as alum at the rate of 50 pounds per surface acre. This will help buffer the acidic effects of alum treatment and protect fish. Alum is only toxic to fish under these conditions or when used at very high concentrations for a long period of time. Aluminum Sulfate Granular

Handle Aluminum Sulfate Granular as a dust and as an eye irritant. Use protective gloves, and eyewear and avoid breathing dust. Store in a cool, dry place. Use only in water under a pH of 8.2. Store in a tightly-closed container or bag.

Alum is hygroscopic and will absorb moisture from the air causing the material to clump. Do not ingest. Avoid breathing powder. Avoid skin and eye contact. Dusty conditions may irritate the eyes and respiratory system
