Great quality!

These came fast, all alive and healthy, with a bonus snail plus one baby! They got right to work on the algae in my tank. Thank you!

All Alive

I received all of my snail Alive. Only one had a damaged shell. Quite a few extra were given as well. They are big and look nice. I placed most in my pond and haven’t seen them since but I did place a few in an inside aquarium. The ones inside have already had babies which I’m super excited about. They are also surprisingly fun to watch. I gave only 4 stars instead of 5 because in the indoor aquarium I have noticed several species of bug. The had to have hitched a ride with the snail. I’m new to this pond and aquarium stuff so maybe these bugs are totally harmless and will be eaten by the fish. Hopefully that’s the case but I do have some worry about my fish and plants hence the 4 stars.

Black Japanese Trapdoor Pond Snails

Description

Black Japanese Trapdoor Pond Snails - Algae Eaters

Japanese Trapdoor Snails (Viviparis malleatus) are the preferred species of snail for recreational and professional pond and water gardeners worldwide. Algae Eating Japanese Trapdoor Snails are one of the few snail varieties that can over-winter well and survive in harsher northern climates.

Algae Eating Japanese Trapdoor Snails are a great asset in helping keep algae under control in your pond and water garden as they groom your plants, planting pots, and water garden rocks and walls.

Algae Eating Japanese Trapdoor Snails will tend to the bottom of the pond, consuming any decaying matter such as leaves, excess fish food, and even fish waste. Trapdoor Snails are live-bearing; they only breed a couple of times a year and will not take over your pond like other nuisance egg-bearing snails.

In order for your Trapdoor Snails to have a positive effect on algae growth, a minimum of 10 snails per 50 sq. feet will be needed, and farm ponds will need to have at least 200 Algae Eating Snails per acre to have any effect. Baby Japanese Trapdoor Snails are great forage for many mollusk-eating pan-fish and catfish species.
