Aluminum Sulfate: The solution for clearing up suspended particles

Are you struggling with cloudy or murky water in your pond? Suspended clay particles and algae can make your water look dull and unhealthy. Aluminum Sulfate (Alum) is a a drinking water-certified (NSF/ANSI 60) solution designed to clear contaminants and restore crystal-clear clarity to your pond, lake, or even your swimming pool.

Why choose Aluminum Sulfate?

  • Effective Particle Clearing: It binds to suspended clay and algae, causing them to settle at the bottom of the water column within hours.
  • Phosphorus Binding: Helps reduce harmful algae blooms (HABs) by binding sediment phosphates.
  • Versatile Use: Ideal for large lakes, farm ponds, and even residential pools or hot tubs.
  • Professional Grade: Our granular alum is a naturally occurring chemical refined for maximum efficiency.

Application Tips:

We recommend completing a test before treating the entire pond. Obtain a Aluminum Sulfate Sample from us, collect two jars of water from your pond. In one jar add a pinch of alum and leave the other jar as a control. Wait 24-48 hours. If the particles settle, then alum is what you need.

For most ponds, we recommend a rate of 25 to 50 pounds per acre-foot. Because alum is acidic, we suggest monitoring your pH and alkalinity levels (aiming for 7.0+ pH and 75+ mg/l alkalinity) to ensure a safe environment for your fish. When applying alum to your pond or body of water treat only half the water at once, allowing a few days between the treatments.
